A trading plan is a written set of rules that defines what you trade, when you enter and exit, how much you risk, and how you review — all decided in advance, before money and emotion are involved. It turns trading from reactive guessing into a repeatable process. Educational, not financial advice.

What a trading plan includes

  • Market and setup — what you trade and the specific conditions you act on.
  • Risk — maximum risk per trade (the 1% rule), a daily loss limit, and a cap on number of trades.
  • Entry and exit — where you get in, where your stop goes, and where your target sits.
  • Review — how and when you journal and assess your trades.

Why write it down

An unwritten plan bends the moment you are under pressure — that is when overtrading and revenge trades creep in. A written plan gives you something fixed to check against when emotion is loudest.

  1. I trade [market] on the [timeframe] when [setup conditions].
  2. I risk [1% or less] per trade and stop for the day at [daily loss limit].
  3. My stop goes [structure-based level]; my target is [level or R multiple].
  4. I journal every trade and review weekly.

Review is where it improves

A plan is only as good as your honest review. Our free Trader Health Check reads your own exported trade history and flags whether your real behaviour matches your plan — it is educational only, not a broker, and never asks for your password.

Takeaway

A trading plan is your rules written down in advance: what you trade, your risk, your entries and exits, and your review. Keep it simple, follow it exactly, and let honest review refine it.

Educational only — not financial advice; trading carries a real risk of loss.
