Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate profit on a trade?
Profit = (sell price − buy price) × quantity, minus any fees. For a short trade it's (entry price − exit price) × quantity, minus fees. This calculator does both directions automatically.
How is percentage return calculated?
Percentage return = net profit ÷ the cost of the position × 100. So a $500 net profit on a $5,000 position is a 10% return.
Does this work for crypto and forex?
Yes — the profit math is identical for any instrument priced per unit: stocks, ETFs, crypto, or forex. Enter your prices and quantity (units/contracts) and include fees for an accurate net figure.
Should I include fees and commissions?
Yes, if you want your real result. Enter total fees for both entry and exit — on small trades, fees can turn a small gross gain into a net loss, which is exactly what you want to see before you trade.
